// template for new/empty pages ((header)) title:MAC (Media Access Control) address author:@europlus@europlus.zone ((content)) A MAC address is meant to be a unique identifier of Ethernet (or Ethernet-adjacent) technologies (including WiFi). of the form aa:bb:cc:xx:yy:zz where each segment is a one byte value (so 00-FF) – the aa:bb:cc section is the manufacturer designation, and the xx:yy:zz section is the individual device’s unique portion within that manufacturer designation. Historically fixed, and not fully guaranteed to be unique (some manufacturers have even been known to use the same xx:y:zz segment for ~~all~~ their devices!) these usually hidden designations can help separate traffic for different devices on a network, or to identify devices for [DHCP] reservation. **Note:** While pronounced “Mac”, correct use is to be fully capitalised to indicate its status as an acronym (and to avoid confusion with Mac computers).
